Dean is a 20-year old international level New Zealand Powerlifter who grew up in the Bay of Islands and is currently living in Auckland. Dean has been a competitive powerlifter for the past 3 and a half years competing under Regional, New Zealand and International Powerlifting Federations. He used to play soccer and also competed at National level in Gymnastics during his high school years. It wasn’t until his final year of high school after much persuasion from a close friend and a school P.E teacher that Dean decided to enter a local powerlifting competition. This was the beginning of Deans new found passion for the sport. After winning his first competition Dean quickly moved onto Regional and National level competitions. His biggest
accomplishment for the year was winning the 2013 Commonwealth and Oceania Powerlifting Championships where he broke 4 international records for the 19’s age division. Dean’s most recent success in the sport was winning the junior 83kg division at the 2015 Auckland Championships and being awarded best junior powerlifter in Auckland which resulted from his 225kg Backsquat, 170kg Benchpress and 240kg Deadlift. Dean is currently training towards the 2015 Commonwealth Powerlifting Championships in Vancouver, Canada where he hopes to place well and move further towards his dream of winning a world title.
